Sound Damping Compound Data Sheet

| More

sound damping compoundVBD10 Damping Compound is a water based visco-elastic damping compound that reduces structure borne vibration in a variety of materials. By imparting vibration damping and a shift in the dominant frequency, the resulting noise reduction provides a means of improving the noise transmission loss in many applications.

VBD10 Damping Compound improves fatigue life of treated surfaces. It is tough, durable and paintable and is easily applied with trowel, brush or spray. This compound also meets FMVSS 302.

Sound Transmission Loss

The application of VBD-10 to mechanical structures alters the structural vibration in a significant and desirable manner which increases the transmission loss of the structure. Three main alterations in the structural vibration occur: The resonant frequency of the structure vibration is shifted to a lower value and resonant vibration amplitude is decreased. The mass of the structure is increased. The vibrating structure is viscously damped.

VBD-10 may be combined with other acoustical materials to achieve sound absorption as well as sound transmission loss. In these applications, sound is absorbed within a space and the transmission of energy from one space to another is reduced. The amount of sound absorption and transmission loss may be designed to achieve nearly any desired control of the sound environment. Some calculated values of transmission loss (random incident sound) for various coating thicknesses of VBD-10 on 1/16" aluminum plate are presented in Fig. 1. Some calculated values of transmission loss (random incident sound) for various coating thicknesses of VBD-10 on a 1/16" steel plate are presented in Fig. 2.
