Sonex Colortec Foam

Computer Server Room Treatments

While one computer may not cause a huge problem with it's fan noise, a room full of computers can definitely be an issue. Taco Metals, Inc, in Miami, had a room containing 10 servers plus several PC's. The room was fairly small with hard reflective surfaces, and a drop-tile ceiling using standard grade ceiling tiles. If no one had been working in this room, the noise may not have been an issue. However, that was not the case. The one employee stationed in the room was surrounded by excessive ambient noise.

Nick Martin, MIS Manager for Taco Metals, found our website and gave our staff a call. He found that the solution for the computer sound problem was quite simple. First, we recommended using Sonex Classic Colortec foam on the walls behind and in between the server racks. The Class-A Fire Rated foam was to pick up the first reflection of the sound coming off of the fans and keep it from bouncing back or reverberating off of the back wall. Second, we suggested using Sonex Contour Ceiling Tiles, also Class A Fire Rated, to help absorb other excess sound. Depending on the model of ceiling tiles, the NRC value is 2 - 3 times higher than a standard office ceiling tile.

Here's what Nick had to say:

"The day the Sonex Contour Ceiling tiles and acoustical foam panels arrived Nick Martin had them installed into his server room and sent Acoustical Solutions the following statement. “We received the ceiling tiles today and they are already in place and WOW what a difference in the computer room. The ceiling tiles are doing the job, thanks for all your help. I will HIGHLY recommend you and your company in the future”.

Thanks,
Nick Martin, MIS Manager, Taco Metals Inc.
