Green Glue Company's Green Glue Compound is a liquid, waterborne, viscoelastic damping compound which represents the highest performance product of its type. It is used in between sheets of drywall, subflooring or other building materials. It is significantly lower in applied cost than competitive products, with an excellent cost/performance ratio. It is also remarkably tolerant to real-world application conditions and carries almost none of the burden of precision required by many damping systems.

Green glue is non-toxic with no mixing required. For floors and walls, this product drastically reduces impact and airborne noise. It can be used in loudspeaker cabinets, home theaters, and recording studios.

Recommended Coverage:

  • 2 tubes per 32 square feet or per 4' x 8' sheet
  • If low frequency performance is the primary goal and budget is not an issue, use 3 tubes per 32 square feet or 4' x 8' sheet
  • 1 5 gallon bucket will cover 365 square feet
  • Never use more than 3 tubes per 32 square feel or 4' x 8' sheet

Product Questions & Comments (7 items)

  • I was told by a sound engineer that when you apply the green glue you just temporarily screw off the second layer of dry wall till the green glue dries, then you remove the screws so that there is no solid mechanical connection between the layers of drywall for sound frequencies to travel. Is this right, can the green glue hold the sheets with out screws??

  • Hi Chris,

We've heard of people doing this, but we don't recommend it. Green Glue, although sticky, is not intended to hold up drywall by itself and we have not conducted testing to ensure the results of that method are tenable.

  • Is there a way to use green glue to reduce noise travel in a completed condo with laid hardwoods and drywall? HELP PLEASE.

    Dena -

  • Hi Dena,

It depends on what you mean by 'noise travel'. If you are trying to reduce sound transmission through walls, Green Glue is a good solution. If you are trying to lower the noise level inside your condo due to the reverberation caused by hard, flat surfaces, you need sound absorbing materials. Acoustical panels are the most popular sound absorbing product for residential applications because they look great. Our AcoustiArt panels can even be customized with your own photos or artwork. I live in condo built around 2006. The kids running around upstairs is driving me nuts. Can green glue help? How much would it cost to treat 1300 sq feet condo? Probably not very helpful, but the image of the ceiling is attached. Thanks.

  • Hi Ash,

That recessed light is probably your weak point. Read more about that here:

If that recessed light was eliminated or replaced, Green Glue would help with airborne and structure borne noise, but if your biggest issue is impact noise like footfall, a floor underlayment under the flooring above would be the most effective treatment. You could also go the extra mile and create a 'floating ceiling' to mechanically isolate a new ceiling from your existing one. You can do this with isolation clips and additional layers of drywall with damping compound sandwiched between and sealed with acoustical caulk. Please call in with any additional questions so one of our knowledgeable sales reps can walk you though this or other possible solutions: 800-782-5742
