Door Seal Kit #170 & #770 Installation

Installation Overview

Install Threshold

Install Automatic Door Bottom

Threshold Installation

Door Seal Kit Installation Tools Required
  • Tape Measure
  • Metal Saw
  • Drill
  • Bits (masonry if concrete)
  • File
  • Hammer
  • Screwdriver
  • Center Punch

Step 1:
Measure the inside distance between the doorjambs. NOTE: DO NOT measure the inside distance of the door stops; they will need to be notched out after overall length is determined. Transfer inside jamb measurement to threshold and cut with metal saw. At this time, the threshold will need to be notched out for the doors stops. The threshold should be positioned as shown in figure one. Measure and mark the location of the door stops. Cut out a notch for each stop. Place the threshold in door opening to check for fit and make any adjustments if required.

Step 2:
File of metal burrs and sharp edges. Place threshold in door opening and again check for proper fit. The threshold has pre-drilled holes for fastening to the floor. Using a hammer and a center punch, make a depression for each of the screw locations.
Remove the threshold and drill pilot holes for the screws provided with the kit. If the floor is concrete a masonry bit and sleeve anchors will be required.

Step 3:
Position threshold and secure with screws.

Jamb Seal Installation

Door Seal Kit Installation

Tools required:
  • Razor
  • Knife
  • Measuring tape
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
  • Metal saw

Step 1:
Measure the top inside width of the door opening along the doorstop. Transfer this measurement to the short piece of doorjamb. Cut neoprene first at the mark with a razor knife and then cut with a metal saw. Place cut doorjamb up to the bottom of the doorstop to check for fit. Trim to size if required. Screw doorjamb to doorstop with the neoprene facing the door. Be sure door makes correct contact with neoprene before you fasten. Too much neoprene exposure will prevent the door from closing. Too little neoprene contact will not permit a good seal. With the hardware, provided, screw doorjamb to stop using the slotted holes. Close door and check for proper contact. By loosing the screws, you will be able to make fine adjustments.

Step 2:
After the top (horizontal) doorjamb has been mounted you can now install the two vertical pieces. Measure down the stop from the bottom of the doorjamb just installed to the floor or threshold. Be sure to measure both sides. Transfer these measurements to the remaining long pieces of sound trap. Follow the same cutting and fastening procedure you previously performed on the top piece.

Step 3:
Using screwdriver, adjust the stainless steel adjusting screw to ensure proper contact or seal. (See diagram above) Again, check for proper door closure.

Automatic Door Bottom Installation

Door Seal Kit Installation Tools required
  • Razor Knife
  • Tape measure
  • Metal cutting saw
  • Drill
  • Screwdriver
**Note: All surface mounted units must be mounted on the push side of the door (side where the door stop is).

Step1: Measure the width of the door and subtract 1/8" from the measurement.

Step 2: Before cutting the closure unit push the insert as far in as possible to the opposite end of the housing from the adjusting nut. Mark and cut the closure unit with a metal cutting saw.

Step 3: Leave 1/16" clearance on each end of closure. The brass-adjusting nut must be on the door hinge side and should not be adjusted until the unit has been mounted. Optimum clearance between bottom unit and the floor or threshold is 3/8". Mount the unit to the door with screws provided.

Step 4: After the unit has been mounted, turn adjustment nut in or out until closing door pushes neoprene seal down to make contact with floor or threshold.
