How To Acoustically Treat A Room On A Tight Budget

13 April 10 - 09:36 - by Chris
Providence Methodist Church in Richmond, VA approached Acoustical Solutions desiring to improve thier meeting hall / multi-purpose room with a limited budget. The problem was that all the hard parallel surfaces within the space caused problems to the speech inteliigetability within the space when they had large gatherings. The room was approx 40' x 30' with hard CMU Concrete block walls, tile floor and a drop tile ceiling and they had a small stage area on one end with heavy curtains. They approached us wondering what would give them the best bang for the buck on a $1,000 budget. What we suggested was using the 1" thick AlphaSorb Fabric Wrapped Wall Panels. With the AlphaSorb Panels your best bang for the buck is to use larger panels, because the square foot price per panel is less on the larger panels than the smaller panels. So they installed (4) 8' x 4' panels on the one long wall opposite the windows and one 8' x 4' panel on the back wall opposite the stage. At the time of order, the church understood this was a great starting point for the room and they always had additional space to later add more panels, but in adding sound absorption to any room the first panels you put into the room will always be the most effective. We got this photo and statement back from the church "They put up the sound panels. they look and sound great!" Thanks, Mark.

On a side note, the AlphaSorb Panels won the 2008 Religious Products News Hot Products award for 2008.

Polyester Acoustical Panels

We launched the PolyPhon polyester acoustical panels a few months ago and, wow, what a response.

Some of the great characteristics of the Polyphon that seem to be hot buttons for our customers include the high level of recycled content, the class a fire rating and the fact that the boards are formaldehyde free, odorless and don't irritate the skin.
