Acoustical Solutions is designing a Sound Barrier Wall System for Sturgis Iron and Metal's "Mega Shredder". The "Mega Machine" is the world's largest automobile shredder. The History Channel as part of its "Modern Marvels" series will feature the 130 Heavy Shredder. The televised premier is May 23, 2007.

Sound Blankets Get Pile Driver Hammering Again...

Last month I had a customer call with a problem. They were building a skyscraper in a dense metropolitan area and had 1000 150 foot pylons to plant for the foundation of the structure. The first of these was driven and work was halted due to noise. They had constructed a shield wall, but it was insufficient in reducing the noise to acceptable levels. The next time you are sitting at your listening position in your theater or music room have someone run a mirror on the side wall(s).  If you see a reflection of one of your main speakers in the mirror, that is the positiion of your first reflection from that speaker.  That is the best location to place an acoustical panel to kill the first reflection.  This way, you get the signal directly from the speaker rather than the combination of the direct with the first reflection milliseconds later;combining to muddy the sound

Sonex Foam Pattern

Sonex classic starts as a block of foam and is run through 2 rollers with teeth on them to match the pattern.  When being cut, the foam does not go through at the exact starting point each time so the pattern start at the edge of each pair is different.  If you try to run one row accross with the positive pattern only and the next row with a negative pattern only, the patterns in the panels will not be an exact match.The best way to install the sheets is in a checkerboard pattern.  This way you don't have to worry about patterns matching up exactly.

Green Glue is not actually an adhesive...

I have received a lot of questions lately about the adhesive strength of Green Glue. When using Green Glue, you do have to use drywall screws as the product is actually a damping compound and will not provide the structural support required to hold up your new layer of drywall. It has a ketchup like consistency, is very easy to dispense and will not flow off the board when installing. Cleanup is as easy as a little soap and water... I hope you have found this helpful...
