Like most school gymnasiums Moody Middle School in Richmond, VA had a noise (reverberation) problem. When the gymnasium was full of students, it was next to impossible to distinguish one conversation from another or hear the public address system.
The large gym was used for class as well as sports events. When the gym was full of people, the noise levels became such a problem that students and teachers had a difficult time understanding each other. With so many different sounds bouncing off of the hard surfaces of the walls, ceiling and floor, it created a harsh reverberation (echo) problem.
The school contacted Acoustical Solutions, Inc. to find away to solve this problem. Acoustical Solutions, Inc. installed a series of 2 ’x 4’ x 2” thick AlphaEnviro Hanging Baffles in between the ceiling trusses to overcome this problem.
“The difference is astronomical! The PE folks report that announcements can now be heard, 100 sixth graders are loud but not resonant and the teachers in the two classrooms behind the gym have to go out in the hall to see if the other classes are even in the gym. It's amazing what a thin piece of [fiberglass] covered in plastic can do. Thanks to all who had a part in procuring the
sound panels.”
