Acoustic Foam Makes Way For Research

Acoustical Solutions, Inc. has soundproofing and noise control products, ideas and solutions for almost every situation; and spaces with impressive names like "advanced measurement lab test rooms" are no exception.

ASI successfully treated a research facility in Maryland using acoustic foam, which is perfect not only for treating noise, but also when a great deal of cutting and custom shaping is necessary.

Application Introduction

Here we see an example of Sonex™ Classic, which is one of our most popular foam products.

Sonex™ Classic can be used for acoustical treatment in a number of different spaces, including recording studios, broadcast studios, music practice spaces, performance halls and in residences.

What we see to the right, however, is one of the National Institute of Standards and Technology's advanced measurement lab test rooms in Gaithersburg, Md.  The NIST felt the room, as it was originally, was too reflective.

They called Acoustical Solutions and ordered enough Sonex™ Classic foam tiles to cover almost every inch of wall space in the test chamber.

Acoustic foam works by absorbing sound waves before they have a chance to bounce between surfaces.  This bouncing is what causes echoes and reverberation.

More specifically, acoustic foam provides the following benefits:

1. Reduction of slap echo
2. Lowering of noise levels
3. Suppression of room flexure
4. Elimination of standing waves
5. Reduction of near-field reflections
6. Smoothing of frequency response

Sonex™ Classic foam tiles are Class 1 fire-rated and are available with painted surfaces or in Classic Colortec, which means they have been dyed throughout.
