• I am trying to sound proof an opening of 10 feet high by 18 feet wide. What would you recommend? Would the audioseal absorber blanket help? What is it's stc ratig?

• The AQFA-10 does not have the mass loaded vinyl in it, therefore it has not STC rating. • I want to cover the doorway to my home office so people won't hear my dogs bark when I'm on the phone. The dogs will be 25 feet away from the office area. Will this product absorb most of that noise?

• Cathy - This product only absorbs noise, it does not block it. Sound absorption products (foam, wall panels, this product, etc.) improve sound within a space but do not block the sound from entering or leaving.

  What you are looking for is a product that actually blocks the sound, which is normally achieved using mass. We do have a sound blanket with mass-loaded vinyl added to it, so it both absorbs and blocks noise (see Matt's comment above for Web address).

  What I think is the best option for you, however, is a door seal kit (http://www.acousticalsolutions.com/598~door-seal-kits). These kits are very effective tools because of what is called the 1% rule. The rule states that a 1% opening around a door will allow up to 50% of the sound that reaches it to pass through.  The kits seal any and all openings.

• We have a doggie daycare and grooming business with a lot of hard surfaces and are looking for a good solution to reduce the overall noise level. We don't necessarily need to block sound just knock it down. I'm a little concerned about the durability of panels vs. blankets. Can you advise? Thanks

• Jane, Usually I would say that blankets are more durable than panels due to their vinyl cover, but for a business such as yours I would recommend the AlphaEnviro PVC Wall Panels. They are durable, cheaper, and in my opinion look better in commercial facilities. They will absorb sound and lower the noise level in your facility. • I'm trying to soundproof one garage interor wall and one metalal garage single car door? What do I need for an easy do it myself? Please advise.

• Hi Donnie,

   

  For your wall, adding another 5/8" layer of drywall with Quiet Glue pro will help this a great deal. For your door, use either ABSC-25 or ABBC-13 blankets to cover the doors. I had to put a long 2 x 6 board over my door and put long thick guage nails in at a 45 degree angle to hang the blankets from. Where the door track curves away from the wall, we can put a reinforced barrier patch that will allow you to cut a slit that goes around the track. On either side of the door you can either screw the panels to the wall, or we can provide velcro with the mating psa that you can adhere to your wall. Let me know if you have any questions! • I do massage and share a wall in an older building with a business office. I am trying to find an affordable solution to eliminate any sound coming or going from my office to theirs and visa versa. The wall is approximately 9x20. It also has a dropped ceiling with walls that do not extend to the roof. Thank you.

  The easiest way to soundproof an existing wall is to use a damping compound like QuietGlue Pro (http://acousticalsolutions.com/31~quietglue-pro) and an additional layer of drywall. For the noise coming through the drop ceiling, I recommend a barrier drop ceiling tile that can be installed easily in your exisiting system like Thundertile or Signature Sound Barrier Ceiling Tiles (http://acousticalsolutions.com/drop-tile-sound-barriers).
