Bay State Commons
In order to easy the worries of their neighbors, the Bay State Commons shopping center in Westborough, MA, needed a solution to stop traffic noise from passing from the shopping center into the near-by residential community. Acoustical Solutions, Inc. met the challenge with the AcoustiCrete™ concrete modular sound wall.
Application Introduction
In April of 2005, Waterman Design Associates contacted Acoustical Solutions, Inc. about a proposed new retail center in Westborough, MA, Bay State Commons. Residencies adjacent to the new center were concerned about noise from idling trucks and increased traffic along Brigham Street. The solution needed would have to both attenuate the sound for the residential area and meet all other designs goals. Acoustical Solutions proposed using the AcoustiCrete™ wall system.
Treatment Provided
The AcoustiCrete™ concrete modular sound wall system is a lightweight steel and fiberglass reinforced pre-cast concrete wall system that installs easily, is low maintenance, and economical.
AcoustiCrete™ was the easy choice for this solution because of its ability to provide an aesthetically pleasing, long-lasting sound barrier between the residential area and the new Bay State Commons development.
Results
The AcoustiCrete™ sound barrier system was constructed between the shopping center and the adjacent residential street using a "dry stacked" stone pattern with an optional faux finish applied to the residential side of the project.
The faux finish added an aesthetic feature for the residential neighbors.
This project demonstrated the speed with which a solution can be installed. Due to the modular design of the AcoustiCrete™ wall system, the entire wall can be constructed very quickly with minimum environmental disruption.
